Pepp’er’dew peppers

20120922-180228.jpg

Peppadew is a trademarked pepper. These peppers, shiftily named pepperdew peppers, similar apparently in every way except trademark are obtainable from all sorts of sellers. Of course you’ve still got to find a sweet brine recipe to boil them up in.

Only two of my pepperdew pepper seeds actually germinated. Not sure this is because of my hamfisted way of growing them, sowing them too late or because of the way they may have been smuggled off a plantation.

I have dedicated my special automatic water and feed box obtained at the centre of alternative technology on last years scout camp to get the ball rolling and make them less sad and spindly. It’s been working!

I’m hoping they’ve bred fairly true so I can have more next year!

Bread in the pizza oven

Admittedly I accidentally made the dough according to the wrong instructions – it was supposed to be pizza dough.

The pizza was as excellent as it usually is and I took the chance to try my laser thermometer from Maplins. Unfortunately it turns out it only goes to 370’C. My oven is substantially hotter!

Anyway, it was taking twice as long to cook a pizza, which generally means I’ve finished. But this time we tried throwing in the accidentally made dough.

In 25 minutes we had a lovely loaf!

Peppers

Not the most beautiful bell peppers you’ve ever seen, but definitely the tastiest.

I’m saving the seed so hopefully they’ll breed true next year!

A mostly free crumble thanks to the guy at the end of the road who put his windfalls out for free on the roadside!

Tidying up

The incinerator is p***ing off the neighbours and the compost is full again.

Yes, it’s officially autumn (Meteorologically speaking)

And I’ve been tidying!

And I started on the drainage for the greenhouse as well!

Liberally fixed up some really old rotten plastic corner pieces

Check out the chilies!

When mother nature gives you blight, make chutney

20120902-115244.jpg

Lots of lovely toms with their potential ruined by blight. I managed a couple of dozen tomatoes before blight cruelly took over. Nevermind… Make chutney! Using Jayefuu’s grans recipe http://www.instructables.com/id/Grans-Green-Tomato-Chutney/ they are being converted.

It’s also my first ever chutney made by me!
